Munich July 7-10

Our first stop in Munich was the Hofbräuhaus beer garden. It seats about 3,500 people! It was founded in 1589 and while it has undergone some renovation and add ons, it has stayed in the same spot all this time. Since it was rainy it was full of people, Bavarian musicians, guys selling HUGE pretzels and lots of waiters carrying 4 pints of liter sized beers in one hand! Hitler frequented the Hofbräuhaus beer house gaining support for his idea of a superior race. His made his first public speech here. We sat at a long table with other Germans and two different times the band played a song and immediately everyone started singing along, with glasses raised so of course, we joined in.

Our second day we went to the  Neuschwanstein and Linderhof castles.

Our last full day it rained steadily till about 6 in the evening. We grabbed our umbrellas and headed out. We went to the Viktualienmarkt, an open air market. We watched the glockenspiel clock, went to the Residenz Palace which, is HUGE. We walked through 90 rooms and the Residenz treasury.

Afterwards we hung out in the hotel until it stopped raining and then we walked through the English gardens and watched some guys surf in the river.

The main tower and the glockenspiel clock.

Inside the Residenz: a room with decoration made entirely of sea shells.

The men's bathroom has a vomitorium.

Regulars have tables reserved for them and an area where they can keep their beer steins.
