It was a long 8 hour train ride from Vienna, Austria to Ljubljana, Slovenia. (Pronounced lyoob-lyana) Although it is the capital there isn't much to do so we just wandered around the city, went to Prešeren Square, Riverside market and took a funicular up to the Ljubljana Grad, the castle. For dinner we headed to a pizzeria. We wanted to eat outside but it was pretty crowded and there were two people ahead of us. When a table opened up they offered to share it with us. The woman was from Slovenia and her friend who was visiting her, Korea. We sat there for about two hours chatting. It was quite enjoyable. As we were walking back to our hotel we heard numerous polka bands. Polka is very popular there.
I asked our hotelier what was up with all the shoes on the lines and she said there was no special reason. People just did it.
Huge thing of huckleberries for $6. We got some spoons and ate up!
The funicular up to the castle.
The castle dungeons had markings on the wall of noble's names and their crests.
