We ended up going to Plaza de los toros and then Retiro Park where we visited a couple of old palaces that now house modern art shows. Then we walked up Calle Alcala, the main street through Madrid and to a souvenir shop. After that we did some grocery shopping and then headed home to make a late lunch.
I had bought quail eggs earlier for a tapa that I wanted to try making so we did that too. I freaked out cracking the quail egg though. The shell is very hard and when I had partially cracked the shell for some reason it hadn't cracked as easily as I thought it would and for some reason it entered my mind that maybe a partially grown baby quail was still inside the egg. I squealed and threw the egg in the sink. Ben who was in there cooking something else and Mom, who was in there to see that the eggs looked like when cracked laughed at me. Mom picked the egg out of the sink and cracked it into the pan, baby-less. Once I saw that the eggs looked like normal eggs I finished cracking them into the pan.
Later that evening we went to El Jardin Secreto for dessert. I love this little cafe! It is right down the street from us and always super crowded. They make the best desserts and have yummy hot chocolates too.
It was a good last night together. We had to get up pretty early the next day to get to the airport. We ended up getting there in plenty of time and had breakfast at McDonalds.
Plaza de los toros
I had to look twice at this add in the metro. It says "The man of your life has left your life? Sell it!" We all got a good laugh out of the woman.
At the Palacio Cristal in Retiro. This man's art was to wrap a bunch of string around the columns on the inside and tie a gold ring with a diamond in the string and then to place a square of dead grass in the corner of the room with a matching ring in the grass.
At the other palace there was a room that just had orange light on the walls so we started having some fun. Here is mom pretending to punch Ben.
The infamous quail eggs. When they first got here Ben and I were talking about the tapas we were going to make with the quail eggs and everyone kept thinking we were saying "quail legs". Once they figured out we were saying eggs Mom told us she was trying to figure out what you could possibly make with the meat from a quail's legs. It would have to be one teeny tiny tapa!
Wearing our scarves purchased in Spain and getting ready to leave for dessert.
Yum.
haha i like the ring picture! and ahhhh the secret garden...that is so cute!
ReplyDeletebtw, i could totally see the whole cracking of the eggs scenario in my head ;)
