On the night before Christmas Eve day, I told everyone that we had to get up early the next day because Ben and I had a surprise for them. (But really Amy was the only one who didn't know what it was.) So the next day we got up early and went somewhere for breakfast before the surprise.
Ben had found a place called San Gines that serves the best chocolate con churros. I've written about it before; thick melted creamy chocolate and six delicious churros to dip in it. We got there only about 20 minutes after opening and already the place was jammed packed. After the churros we headed over to El Corte Ingles, a huge department store here in Madrid. Amy was still questioning me about the surprise as we were going through the store. We were almost to our destination.
As we were headed up the last escalator, I turned to her and explained that I was really bummed I wouldn't be able to be there with her when she tries on wedding dresses back in the States. We had talked previously about trying to find someone with an iphone who could go along and skype me into the appointment but that seemed too complicated. As I was telling her this, we were arriving at the floor that has the bridal section and I explained that we had come to El Corte Ingles to try on wedding dresses! She was pretty surprised!
I had talked previously with one of the ladies who works there so she knew we were coming in. When we got there, she set us down at a computer so we could look through the dresses and pick out our favorites. They have a beautiful collection! We spent the next couple hours here trying on the dresses and just having some good ol' wedding fun.
Afterwards, we headed back to the mercado to do some last minute grocery shopping and then we headed home for lunch. After lunch we went to see the movie The Hobbit. It is a different experience seeing a movie here in Spain because on peak movie days, the seating is assigned and when you buy your tickets, you have to pick out your seats. I much prefer the 'get there when you get there and find your own seats' way of the States but hey, when your in Rome....or in this case Spain.
This day was a little more laid back which was nice because we had been touring pretty hard the last few days. Since our church is held at a night club, there was no Christmas Eve service so we spent the night at home hanging out.
At San Gines which has been open for over 100 years.
We tried to go early to get the movie tickets but they weren't open yet.
Last minute grocery shopping before everything shuts down Christmas day.
Cute idea about the wedding dresses! She should have bought hers in Spain! How cool to say oh yeah it's from Spain :)
