Day #7: Segovia

Ben and I liked Segovia so much that we took Mom, Dad and Amy there too.

We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. It was a bit chilly though and as we walked around I wished I would've worn my winter jacket that Amy had fished out of our storage unit for me but I survived.

We went to the cathedral and then to the alcazar, the castle. After the castle we wandered around till we found a good place to get cochinillo, roast suckling pig. Dad, Mom and Amy got the menu tipica, which included an appetizer, main course, drink and dessert. When Ben and I went the first time the two things we wanted to try was cochinillo and judiones, giant white beans. The menu tipica included these things so it was quite the deal. I realized I hadn't eaten chicken since sometime during the summer so I got some chicken and tried cocido, a very traditional, typical soup for this time of year and Ben got some kind of fish he had been wanting to try. All in all, it was a successful lunch! For dessert Ben and I tried arroz con leche which was super yummy! It was very similar to Norwegian rice, a food that comes from my Dad's side of the family that we make during the holidays.

After lunch we walked around town and then went down to a pathway that Ben and I found last time that leads around the backside of the castle and up to a monastery. Along the way we found some ducks and fed them the pack of galletas we had in our bag. We also found a section of the old wall that you could walk along and get a pretty good view of the newer parts of Segovia.

By this time, it was time to head back to the aqueduct and catch our bus back to the train station.

The Roman aqueduct in the background.

The cathedral.

It was very cold inside the cathedral. We found one room that they must still frequently use because it was the only room that was heated. We stayed in here for a bit trying to get warmed up.

 At lunch.

We explained to them that you are supposed to eat everything! Including the skin!

Amy pulled out of her part what we think may have been a kidney. She didn't eat that. She did have a bit of a difficult time getting the meat off and we were teasing her almost non stop through the meal. She was a trooper though and ate pretty much everything!

Dad ate absolutely everything, including all the skin! I tried the skin last time and while it wasn't terrible, I couldn't eat all of it.

Mom was like me. She tried the skin but didn't finish it all.

From the beginning of the pathway looking back up to the cathedral. The pathway starts in what used to be the Jewish quarters. This area has now been turned into a community garden.

From the pathway below the castle looking up to the castle and what appeared to be a cave.

 Feeding the ducks.

Walking along the old wall.

  1. I love the picture of Kent leaning over the heater hahahaha. Also, not surprised whatsoever that he ate all of his food.
Glad you took them on a fun side trip!!
