The Laundry Adventure

We had a great first night in the apartment. When we went to get sheets, towels and laundry detergent, we decided we were tired of eating out and we got some pizza and wine. Fortunately there was already a cookie sheet in the oven for us to bake the pizzas on because we don’t have any dishes yet. The Ikea run is this Saturday. We used Ben’s pocket knife to cut the pizza and the plastic cups we took from the hotel for the wine. Since we’ve been here for a week (it feels like so much longer!) we had some laundry to do. Unfortunately there was no little booklet for how the washing machine works. We pulled out the programador button twirled it around and pushed it back in, flipped a few other switches that we couldn’t figure out and put the clothes and detergent in. Two hours later and the washing machine is STILL going. We can’t figure out what the deal is. The washer is completely fully of water and as soon as it drains it fills right back up again. The door won’t unlock when the water is drained so we can’t get the clothes out. Ben suggested we leave the programador button pulled out. That did the trick. After another half hour the laundry is finally done and ready to be put out on the line. We still have one issue to figure out. When we pulled the clothes out they were sopping wet! The washer didn’t spin dry them. We did another load today and put it on a different cycle and flipped different switches but the clothes still came out sopping wet. I feel bad too because we are on the top floor and our laundry is dripping on everyone else’s laundry getting it wet again. We are seeing our landlord’s sister this Saturday when she gives us a second set of keys so hopefully she can explain how to use the washing machine!

I also called my school today and I go in Monday! I think she said I would only be there an hour so I don’t really know what I will be doing. I am the first profesor colabrador at this school so I think they might still be figuring out what to do with me. With Friday off though, Ben and I are finally taking the time to be tourists! There is a big catedral and a palacio near where we leave so we are going to go check it out!

Our first dinner in our piso.

I tried Fanta Limon at a restaurant and I loved it! So when we were at the grocery store we bought all the limon drinks to see what others I like because not all cafes/restaurants have Fanta.

Finally able to hang the laundry! I have to hang out our bedroom window to put it on the line.

The laundry soaked the bed because spin dry wasn't on.

The buttons that we don't know what they do.

The programador. I don't know what the letters mean!

  1. ahhh Kristin you had me laughing pretty hard with the laundry. ahhhh in no time you will have this figured out and life will be much easier. the cherry on top would be a neighbor below you running up to your room, pounding on the door, then Ben answering it, then him screaming at Ben in spanish about your wet clothes dripping onto theirs. haha! at least you two have each other and you can look back and laugh at all this! :) love ya
